It is the recently established McLaren GT that is behind the development of the 12C GT3. The road car just like the 12C features a superb design of the very best and comes with a very unique one piece chassis made of carbon fiber, which has been dubbed the MonoCell. This is a feature that the team revealed in Formula 1 racing in 1981. The luxury supercar for the road will also come with numerous other features that stem from Formula 1 supercars. One of these superb pieces of technology is the design of the steering wheel which is the same as the one used by champion racer Lewis Hamilton.

The supercar has been tested to the extreme on numerous grounds, including FIA approved circuits scattered across Europe. The development phase has been useful to McLaren in regards to optimizing the technical specifications of the supercar, along with the vehicles durability. A spokesman for the team said that the reaction to the racing car has been excellent at all of the circuits visited.
