Every year some of the world's elite visit the
luxury island of Capri to enjoy the scenery and first class
lifestyle events of one of Italy's
very best holiday destination. While the island itself is the primary attraction for most guests, some travel to Capri for an entirely different reason, and that is to visit
Chantecler, the island’s premier
luxury jewelry boutique.
History of Chantecler
In the 1930s, jeweler Pietro Capuano traveled to the
luxury island of Capri with his father where he became entranced by her beauty. Soon, his colorful and
luxurious jewelry designs and engaging
lifestyle personality won the hearts of the locals. He earned the nickname
Chantecler (Rooster in Italian) because of his habit of walking around the island dressed in red. This was his personal political statement against Fascism, but the name stuck, and soon became the name of his establishment as well.
By the late 1940s, word of the eclectic jeweler had reached the mainland of Europe, and in 1947 he opened the
Chantecler store with the help of a local named Salvatore Aprea. By the 1950s and 1960s, the world’s elite had discovered his
luxury designs and were clamoring for their own pieces. Among the jeweler’s clients are world-famous names like Grace Kelly, Charlie Chaplin and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
