Life for the
luxury Lamborghini motor industry officially began in 1963. However its roots were laid in 1916 with the birth of Ferruccio
Lamborghini. Creating of what would become a
superb Empire, began during the 1960s when Ferruccio decided to build a factory of extreme
luxury sports cars. He knew what he wanted. To build
luxury sports cars that would surpass those of Ferrari. Many believed that Ferruccio would achieve nothing and would squander away his fortune trying to build cars that were seen to be nothing more than an unexplainable
luxurious extravagance. By May of 1963, Automobili Ferruccio
Lamborghini was founded and if events were not completed to the satisfaction of Ferruccio, he simply rolled up his sleeves and took over himself.
The birth of a legend: A tight deadline was set for the introduction of the first
Lamborghini sports car the 350 GTV. The introduction to the world was set for one of the
very best in auto shows, the Turin Show, towards the end of 1963. The engine of course needed to be one of the
finest and so the V12 was chosen. When the 350 GTV was unveiled, it was hailed as nothing less than a masterpiece. It became an exclusive
luxury model.
1964 turned out to be a very extraordinary year for
Lamborghini. During this year,
Lamborghini introduced the 400 GT, which included the very first gearbox to be designed by
Lamborghini. Again, it was an exclusive
lifestyle model with only 273 made available. 3 years later
Lamborghini supercars were on line-up at the Italian Auto show and the range that of
luxury. During 1967,
Lamborghini saw a flood of orders for their new Miura. This was a model that was to overwhelm sports car enthusiasts all over the world. The Miura gave
Lamborghini a symbolic
lifestyle name in the world of automobiles for going that one-step further in the design of cars. The year again started out with a first, with the introduction of vertically opening doors, which became a very distinctive feature of
Lamborghini.
This would be used repeatedly in some of their
very best designs.
Lamborghini very quickly became a legend in the world of supercars and sports cars following the launch of the sleek and sexy
Lamborghini Countach. The first model was on show at the Paris Motor Show, bright green in colour. This model is still on show as part of the collection at the superb
Lamborghini museum.
The death and rebirth of Lamborghini: Despite their success,
Lamborghini slowly headed towards financial crisis and they were eventually declared bankrupt in 1980. Everyone thought
Lamborghini was finished. However, just as soon as the company went into liquidation there was enormous interest and companies lined up hoping to take over. The company was entrusted to two brothers, Patrick and John-Claude Mimran, sports car lovers and owners of a sugar empire. In 1981, the Nuova Automobili Ferruccio
Lamborghini SPA Company was launched.
Construction began once again and the Countach 5000 was launched. In 1985, the new version of the popular Countach known as the Quattrovalvole took the stand and took the world by storm at the Geneva Show. This helped to ensure that the
Lamborghini
name once again became firmly established as being among the
very best in producing
luxury cars. The next major innovation for
Lamborghini came in 2001 with the Murcilago, which succeeded the Diablo. The overall quality of this
luxury car made it instantly famous and a much sought after model.
Cars were being reserved for prestigious clients well in advance of their production. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Miura,
Lamborghini introduced the
Lamborghini Miura Concept in 2006. The Miura is a redesign of the original form yet still offers
lifestyle purity of line seen on the original.
