For over ten years there has been a research and development department at the Chateau Margaux, set up to challenge the more traditional techniques with the latest in technology. The development centre has proved its worth as the Chateau has seen improvements in growing the vines and in wine making. Chateau Margaux might not have reached the status of excellence it has today had it not been for its successive owners who knew how to pick the most suitable luxury varieties of grapes and the key to growing them. While innovations are welcomed, one of the main challenges of the Chateau is to keep as close as possible to biological techniques for growing. This technique for growing was established more than twenty years ago allowing Chateau Margaux to avoid the use of pesticides, one of the values the Chateau firmly stands by.

Many values have stood the test of time and the preservation of wine bottles is one, Chateau Margaux developed a system of marking for authenticating their bottles. The system relies on each bottle being laser etched with its unique serial number, allowing the Chateau to track their luxury wine anywhere
