Many words have been used to describe the
Gstaad Chesery including
luxury and Chef Robert Speth. However, one word will suffice, excellent. Arriving in
Gstaad in 1984, intending to spend a single season, 25 years on he remains with his charming wife, who makes a wonderful host, much to the delight of residents and regular visitors.
Robert Speth built up a reputation that is solid through his dedication and hard work at both the
Chesery, and the
luxury Golf club restaurant in
Gstaad Saanenland. The
Chesery and the Golf club go hand in hand. In summer after a round of golf, it would not be out of place to sit on the terrace of the Golf Club and enjoy a light midday meal.
The
Chesery has been honoured with numerous
awards including the Michelin star and 18/20 Gault Millau points. Robert Speth took the title of Gault Millau's Chef of the Year in 2005. Yvan Letzer of the
Chesery also took the Gault Millau "Sommelier of the Year" award. It is not hard to see why! It does not really matter how many stars the
Chesery has been awarded, when it comes down to it, it is the fact that customers keep coming back time and time again. After all, the reputation of a
luxury restaurant should come from within the kitchen, not solely from a
lifestyle guidebook. Those who are lucky enough to enjoy the
Chesery frequently, are left with a sense of disappointment if it happens to be Yvan's night off from serving. He has an incredible memory for clients, knows how to approach them, and more importantly, knows just how to advise them in
