The philanthropy efforts of San Patrignano helps all men and women who have serious drug abuse problems and they provide this help free of charge. The organization has helped more than 18,000 individuals since 1978 by offering them some of the very best legal assistance, health care, providing homes and much more.

The philanthropy organization welcomes and rehabilitates individuals who are addicted to drugs, without any regards to social, political or religious discrimination. The organization promotes putting an end to addiction and social marginalization through paths to recovery that are individualized and which are based on respect for others and oneself, dignity, honesty and responsibility. All individuals welcomed into the philanthropy organization benefit from professional training and there is support for families.

Today the philanthropy organization in San Patrignano is home to more than 1,800 individuals. At the very heart of the community there are 140 volunteers and 350 paid members of staff, some of whom are recovering drug addicts. The community is also home to more than 120 children belonging to individuals who have either completed the program or who are undertaking it, including thirty minors with serious drug addiction problems. The philanthropy organization also has a kindergarten, pre-school, classrooms, housing and gym facilities on site. The community offers one of the very best therapeutic programs aimed at total recovery and reintegration back into society.

The San Patrignano philanthropy organization started out in 1987 when Vincenzon Muccioli with a group of some of the very best volunteers opened their arms and welcomed the first individuals into a home which was owned by the founders family in Rimini in Northern Italy.

By 1982 the total amount of residents being helped by the philanthropy organization was 200. The San Patrignano Foundation was created in 1985 with the aim of collecting together contributions from those who supported the community. By 1986 the philanthropy organization was officially recognized as a professional facility in the region.

In 1987 the philanthropy organization was able to open a facility in the region of Marche which become home to more than 100 individuals. The foundation became recognized by the Italian government in 1990 and by then the Muccioli family decided to donate their entire estate to the community. The philanthropy organization became listed on the Regional Register in the field of drug addiction. During 1995 the foundation founds Rainbow along with seven large American and European communities and the philanthropy organization is now comprised of more than 200 rehabilitation facilities all around the world.

In 2003 the associate of Friends of San Patrignano is founded and supports activities all aimed at rehabilitating drug addicts and helping them to integrate back into society along with raising awareness of drug abuse in the USA.
