Braquenie have been associated with luxury for the home interior in regards to tapestry, rugs and fabrics since the 19th century. The Braquenie brothers purchased the Demy-Doineau company in 1858, a fabric store that had been in existence since the 18th century.

From here they opened a workshop in Aubusson and one in Malines and were soon to attract some of the very best and most select clientele in Paris looking for luxury home interior fabrics. The brothers became the official suppliers to Napoleon III in France, the King of Belgium and the German Emperor. After the Second World War they were the only home interior company who was able to create fabrics and tapestries to restore the French castles that had suffered during the occupation.

Braquenie is well known for their interior designs for the homes of those wanting luxury of the finest. They are known world wide for their canvases, tapestries and short pile carpets all of which offer variety and richness of the very best. The company is also known for moquettes which were during the early days woven on jacquard looms and coordinated with calicos and damask. They were the chosen company of some of the most influential people including the Empress of France and Victor Hugo. The luxury designs of the brand name are often sold to collectors through the auction house Sothebys. One such collection was auctioned in Paris in 2005 and included numerous tapestries, watercolor plans, rugs and original sketches from the interior design team. Some of the very best tapestries were sold during the auction including flat weave patterns, petit point and gros point interior designs. The sketches on auction belonging to the famous home interior brand name featured tapestries including a 20th century pair decorated with garlands and trophies.

In 1991 the interior design company was taken over by the Pierre Frey band name. They have managed to keep their identity and they continue to charm. The latest collection features a combination of some of the finest interior designs that have been reworked from previous collections along with ones that have never before been seen.
