Tommy Hilfiger is an American fashion designer and the founder of the luxury lifestyle brand of the same name. Over the years Tommy Hilfiger has been with numerous spin offs to his brand including denim, perfume, Tommy Girl, Red Label, H, Sport, Hilfiger for Home, Sailing, Tommy, Tommy Jeans and Hilfiger Athletics. Hilfiger attended Elmira Free Academy and also the GST BOCES Bush Campus for Fashion Design. He began working in retail at the age of 18 years when he would purchase jeans along with bell bottom trousers and then customize them before reselling them in a local downtown store. This was the introduction of Hilfiger into the world of designer clothing, the result of which was the founding of The Tommy Hilfiger Corporation which went public in 1992 with the signature menswear collection.The designer has worked alongside spokeswoman Beyonce Knowles on the True Star Gold perfume and True Star and with spokesman Enrique Iglesias for True Star Men. Today the Hilfiger brandname is one of the worlds leading premium lifestyle brands associated with superior styling and quality.Tommy Hilfiger is passionate about helping others and philanthropy in the shape of the Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation which he founded in 1995. The global mission of the foundation is to help to build a healthy civil society. A Better Place?
Eradicating poverty in our lifetime is something I feel very passionate about. I have recently partnered with global charity Millennium Promise whose aim is to do just this by engaging and developing the skills of communities in sub-Saharan Africa. It may sound like a huge goal, but I have witnessed first hand the work which is being done in a cluster of Villages called Ruhiira in Uganda. I'm hopeful that the systems that are being implemented will make this achievable.
