Christies auction house is to sell 14 Lowrys from the collection of Lord Forte. This is one of the very best and most important groups of paintings by the artist to come to auction.

The 14 paintings are among the very best and the highest quality works of art to come onto the market. They will be on auction in the evening sale at the 20TH Century British and Irish Art sale on the 16th November. The Forte family name is behind the world famous hotel brand established by Charles Forte who went on to establish a chain of luxury restaurants and hotels from nothing. Today the collection of hotels is known as Rocco Forte Hotels. This iconic collection has been put up for auction by the descendants of Lord Forte who passed away in 2007.

This superb collection comprises some of the very best oil paintings dating from the 1930s to the 1960s and includes Piccadilly Circus. This is the first time the painting has been seen at auction and is expected to fetch in the region of between £4 million and £6 million. This is classed as a masterpiece from the artist and is one of the most desirable of London scenes to be created by Lowry.
