Laurent Perrier was founded in 1812 and has been avant-garde when it comes to the creation of unique elegant luxury champagne. For more than two hundred years the brand name has been associated with the worlds
very best and is one of the largest family owned brand names.Life for this prestigious
champagne brand name began when former cooper Alphonse Pierlot settled down in Tours-sur-Marne on land known as Plaisances and La Tour Glorieux with the intention of producing some of the
very best champagne. He went on to hand the company to his cellar master, Eugene Laurent, a third generation grower, who along with his wife ran the House together. When Eugene passed away in 1887 Veuve Mathilde took over the state and linked her surname with that of her late husband and the brand name Veuve Laurent-Perrier & Cie. was established. The
champagne house continued to flourish and provided a record breaking number of 50,000 cases, firmly establishing it as one of the industries leaders.During WWI with the help of Alexander Fletcher Keith Mackenzie, the empire was expanded into Great Britain where today it remains, enjoyed by aficionados of
luxury champagne. The House continues to flourish although going through some hard times during WWII and in 1949 Bernard de Nonancourt took over ownership of Laurent-Perrier and began dedicating his life to building the company up to even greater heights. Laurent- Perrier quickly became
established as an innovative leader in the production of
champagne and began its journey on what would become the largest family owned House.
The
luxury brand name was one of the first to introduce the use of stainless steel tanks during the 1950s and introduced their first prestige cuvee which was composed from blends of some of the exceptional years. The Grand Siecle showed the dedication of the team when it came producing
champagne with unique quality as opposed to an elitist image, and changed the process of blending wine when they blended from three of their outstanding vintage years. In 1968 they produced their multi vintage Cuvee Rose Brut which consisted of 100% Pinot Noir using a rare skin contact method to ensure the salmon pink color and to give the wine added complexity and fruitiness. In 1975 Alain Terrier became the mast of the cellar, winemaker and the genius behind all of the
champagne creations to come from Laurent-Perrier. While keeping the traditions of the region he brought in innovations and perfected the art of blending by choosing only the
very best vineyards, vinifying and assembling them with his truly discerning palate.
During 1978 Laurent-Perrier went on to launch a new concept in the international distribution of
champagne when they established their wholly owned subsidiary in the UK, Laurent-Perrier UK.
