Chain of Hope is philanthropy that is very close to the heart, literally. The organization exists to help children who are suffering from heart disease that is life threatening. They provide access to treatment and corrective surgery which children would not have access to otherwise.

The organization relies on philanthropy efforts of the very best to send out medical teams that are needed to treat children in their own country and set up programs of training for local surgeons along with medical staff. In some cases children are brought to the UK for their open and close heart operations which comes with a great deal of expense. Thanks to the philanthropy efforts of Chain of Hope local infrastructures can be developed in places such as Mozambique, Egypt, Jamaica and Ethiopia. The organization has been saving the lives of children for almost fifteen years. It is thought that around 15 million children remain ill or die, each year with cardiac disease that could potentially be treated. Chain of Hope has the luxury of being able to help children such as these by providing them with access to treatment that otherwise they would not have. The philanthropy efforts began in 1995.

The philanthropy organization has been working in Mozambique from 2000 onwards, helping to set up a heart center. The Maputo Heart Institute was developed alongside local medical personnel who were sent to Europe for some of the very best training. The second phase of the institute was set up in 2005 by way of a research unit so that diseases could be investigated which afflict not only those living in Mozambique but also developing countries.

For more than a decade the philanthropy efforts of Chain of Hope have helped children suffering in Egypt. Along with local teams surgeons have undertaken cardiac surgery at the Abu Rishe Childrens Hospital in Cairo. In 2006 they helped to furnish a state of the art theatre which ensured that double the amount of children could be helped. Since 1997 they have conducted surgical missions, treating children with heart problems that were complex. They have also worked with cardiac partner organizations to train and monitor staff and medics working at Bustamante. Chain of Hope is fundraising with the intention of building a brand new intensive care unit at Bustamante Hospital for sick children.

The Chain of Hope philanthropy organization relies on a chain of individuals, all who are volunteers, to bring children to Europe so they can have the life saving cardiac treatment they need. Many of the children would have died in their own country if it had not been for the life saving philanthropy efforts of Chain of Hope and those who give up their time. Volunteers include anyone from physicians to host families who provide a roof over the heads for the child and parent during their stay in the UK.
