The event is famous not only for the actual ceremony which takes place in some of the most stunning and beautiful surroundings each year, but also the famous red carpet walk which attracts millions of viewers itself. Everyone who is anyone watches their letterbox for the much anticipated invitation, while those at home tune in throughout more than 200 countries to watch what is one of the oldest and most prestigious ceremonies in the USA.
The first Oscars Ceremony was held in 1929 with an audience of around 270 people, a very modest affair. Today it is one of the most glittering yearly events attracting stars of the stage and screen along with the very best pop recording artists.
