Salzburg Festival The Salzburg Festival sprang to life in 1920 when Hugo Von Hofmannsthal showed his play Jedermann. Ever since then the festival has become established as one of the most important festivals when it comes to concerts, drama and opera. 2010 saw the festival celebrate its 90th anniversary. One of the first ever operas to be staged north of the Alps took place at the festival and today it is host to some of the very best presentations of music and putting on some of the worlds best extravaganzas which captivate people all over the world who attend the festival. The festival is home to a wide spectrum that extends from mystery to passion plays from the middle ages to Baroque festivities. The festival has become a true myth along with a ritual that is carried out each year and which sees numerous world premiers.
