Every January, the whole of the entertainment community and millions of film fans around the world turn their focus on the Academy
awards. This is a time when interest and anticipation builds up to a fever pitch on the run up to the Oscar telecast in February, this is time when hundreds of millions of movie enthusiasts tune in to watch one of the worlds most glamorous

The Oscars always reward the previous years most superb cinema achievements which are determined by many of the globes most accomplished motion picture artists and professionals. The Academy consists of roughly 6,000 members who all vote for the Oscars using secret ballots; these are then considered by the international auditing firm of Pricewaterhouse Coopers. The auditors always maintain absolute secrecy until the very moment when the shows presenters tear open the envelopes and finally reveal the winners on live television.

awards are presented for some of the

Members choose winners from up to five nominees in each category, and these are determined by members of the relevant Academy branch. The only exceptions to this are the Best Picture category, and for this they are chosen by the entire membership, along with the Best Foreign Language films, these

Nobel Peace Prize
The Nobel Peace Prize is annual
awards given out from a Scandinavian committee to recognize the

awards came about due to the will of Alfred Nobel in 1895. The first of these
awards were presented in 1969 albeit it was not an official Nobel Prize. The Peace Prize is presented in Norway and each of these
awards is considered to be among some of the most prestigious. Every person receiving
awards of this nature receives a gold medal and a diploma with a sum of money. It is not unusual for the prize to be given posthumously and it can be shared among three individuals. Each year there is a substantial amount of candidates.
Many outstanding and famous people have won
awards for the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1979 Mother Teresa was presented with the honor as leader of the order of the missionaries charity. Desmond Tutu took the honor in 1984 for his work against apartheid. In 1998 the
awards were handed out jointly to John Hume and David Trimble of their joint efforts to find peaceful solutions to the conflicts affecting Northern Ireland. President Barack Obama was recipient of one of the
awards in 2009 for his efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people around the world.
The Emmy
The Emmy
awards are often simply referred to as the Emmy and are handed out to those who have made achievements when it comes to the entertainment industry. This can be anything from news and documentary shows to sporting and entertainment. Due to the diversity of the
awards they are split into different categories and as such ceremonies are held throughout the year. Some of the best known of these include the Primetime Emmy
